‘Take any song from the Rolodex of your life and you can pin it to a memory. It translates, resonates, and there it will remain.’

From my earliest childhood memories there was always music in my life. I vividly remember going to the theatre and seeing movies like Grease, Flashdance, Footloose and Can’t Stop The Music. We watched Solid Gold hits on TV with Rick Dee or Marilyn McCoo and my sister and I wished we could be a dancer on the show. We were huge Abba fans and loved to perform their songs in our living room. Our parents had a great collection of vinyl records and when cassettes became the next big thing we would record songs off the radio, and get annoyed if the DJ talked over the beginning of a song. When we travelled away on holiday in our car we listed to mum’s music, like Billy Joel, Elton John, Spandeau Ballet, Meatloaf and Little River Band. This also led to my love of live music, going to see favourite artists in concert and our kids now do the same.

What does this have to do with this book, Drive? The music we listen to and the songs we love are the background stories of our lives. There are so many songs that you can pin a memory to and the lyrics can bring even deeper meaning to those.

This story begins with a prologue, Stella is about to board a plane home after scoring the biggest coup of her career thus far when she receives a phone call that pulls her head back into the past. Rather than fly home, she decides to rent a car and drive the 20 hours listening to the music playlist of her life. The story then jumps back into her back story as we delve into Stella’s memories and along the way we get to enjoy her songs. So back we go……

For the first half of this book Stella becomes involved with a guy she meets through her love of music. He is a drummer in a band but he is a very deeply tortured guy. They share an intense connection and despite her head telling her that they probably won’t work out in the end she allows herself the experience of loving him anyway.

"My lungs filled, and I was dying to exhale into him. My heart thudded so hard I could swear he could hear it. I was completely immersed in his eyes, drunk on temptation, done."

When Stella finds herself alone once again and broken hearted she focuses on her career dreams and this is where she meets the next man that she will share her heart with. Being with this man was easy and they had a shared passion for music and journalism. It was easy to fall in love with him.

“The next time you look at me like that, I’m going to make good on at least five of the scenarios I have going on in my head.” “So, it’s a sex thing.” “No, it’s a Stella thing.”

Just when things were going along nicely in Stella’s life, everything changes. A tidal wave of angst came crashing down all over this story and I was completely messed up over what the heck was going to happen. I loved both of the men in this story, they were both very different and each of them gave Stella memorable experiences. The both truly loved her.

"You still want the fairytale, but it’s mine to give you, and I can’t give it to you if you’re with the wrong f****** prince ."

There is a poignant moment in this story when someone completely bares their soul and I was sobbing and completely heart broken over the rawness and vulnerability of their words. Okay, there were a few heart breaking moments but that one in particular really got to me. I. Felt. Everything.

‘You saved my life that night just by showing up.’

I had no idea what the outcome was going to be until the very end and Kate Stewart did a fantastic job at keeping me on the edge of my kindle. I was crying, gasping and talking out loud to Stella. At the end I was emotionally drained, my eyes were sore from crying and I wanted to roller skate to Xanadu.

This was a truly magnificent reading experience that even days later I am still re-living in my heart and mind.

‘Because music is the hearts greatest librarian.’

Kate Stewart! She's capable of writing anything and I mean anything. From suspenseful erotica, hilarious romcom to angsty second chance romance. She masters any genre.
Drive nurtured my music loving heart and my love for romance. I was blown away by this epic story and the author's lyrical prose.
Drive has cemented Kate Stewart as an author who writes without restraint. Her love and passion for music shines through every word. I'm in love and on a high.

This is Stella's journey and it was meticulously executed. I felt I lived vicariously through her. I saw myself in her and could relate to her.
Stella says pretty early in the story "Music is the heart's greatest librarian". That's her in a nutshell.
Her passion and outlet is music. Lives and breathes it which also reflects on her emotionally. She studies journalism so she can capture and share her love for music with the world. Stella has a voice and she wants to be heard.
Stella meets the handsome and brooding drummer Reid who plays for the unknown band Dead Sergeants. Their connection is instantly. Like magnets. Reid has a lot of emotional baggage he's dealing with but their connection is undeniable.
Stella plays a huge part in the birth of Dead Sergeants and them becoming famous. Her faith in Reid and the band is unparalleled. I loved that about her. Her selflessness and also her determination to achieve her goal. Which is writing for the Austin Speaks paper and cover artists and music.

It takes a toll on their relationship when Reid doesn't believe and has faith in his future with The Dead Sergeants. He's also battling his own demons. Feeling that he's not enough for Stella. In his own eyes he's nothing. She just wants him. Their love is a drug. Potent. Like Stella I was addicted to their story, their evolving connection and I also feared that the bubble would eventually burst.
Reid wanted to feel worthy of Stella and that led them both on different paths which only made them grew and change as people.

You have to experience Stella's journey. The secondary characters are just as interesting and complex as Stella and Reid. Especially Lexi and Ben. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I want their story.

When I read the prologue I was intrigued and as the story developed I questioned the why and how. I loved that nothing was certain and how the hell had Stella gotten to that place in the prologue. The story was never predictable and the plot was flawlessly executed with a compelling narrative.

Drive resonated with me because of my love for music and romance. I recognized the artists and references. I was transported into a time warp and I never wanted to leave.
Yes, Drive is about music but this story is so much more. It's about love and what the heart is capable of. Loving two people. Irrevocably and making a choice.
Drive is unforgettable and I was seduced by Stewart's indisputable voice which proves that Drive is in a league of its own. Wow!

I just took a DRIVE around the life of Stella Emerson and I may not recover from the emotional ride! This story was phenomenal to the point that I’m almost speechless! Lucky enough I’m passionate like Stella and need to express my feelings. This story did so many things to my heart and soul that I’m in a fog of heavy book hangover. Kate really blew it out the water with this amazing story. It’s so unique and all consuming you can’t put it down. The music attached to each chapter is brilliant and set me in the feels of each one. Simply Amazing!

Stella is a beautiful, emotional, passionate girl who lives her life by the sound of music. She brings out so much truth to how music can be the center of everything that goes on in life. She’s insane and weird in the BEST kind of way, which only made me love her more.

Reid my GOD Reid, he stole a piece of my heart and I don’t think I’ll get it back. This man is so broken and sexy that I just wanted to cry. His soul bleeds music and I think it’s the only way he survived his sadness.

Nate is a strong, passionate man who’s dedicated to his job and loves fiercely. He fights for the love he feels and is determined to win.

I can honestly say that this will no doubt be one of my absolute favorite reads and at the top of my list for 2017. Kate your writing is beautiful and unique, I’m floored by your skills and can’t wait to watch this book soar!!!🙌🏻❤️
